New Jersey Solar For All also know as (NJSFA)

New Jersey Solar For All is a statewide initiative designed to make solar energy accessible and affordable for low- to moderate-income households. Launched by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU), the program aims to reduce energy costs for eligible residents by connecting them to community solar projects. Unlike traditional solar installations, participants don’t need rooftop panels; instead, they subscribe to off-site solar farms and receive credits on their utility bills. This approach ensures renters, homeowners, and underserved communities can all benefit from clean energy savings without upfront costs or maintenance.

Key Program Features:

  • Income Eligibility: Open to households earning ≤ 80% of the Area Median Income for their region ($73,000 for a family of four in 2023).
  • Guaranteed Savings: Subscribers save at least 20% on their annual electricity costs through bill credits.
  • No Upfront Fees: No installation costs or long-term contracts required.
  • Renter-Friendly: Ideal for renters or those with unsuitable rooftops, as solar energy is generated off-site.
  • Environmental Impact: Reduces reliance on fossil fuels, lowering carbon emissions.

How to Apply

1. Check Eligibility: Confirm your income level using the NJBPU’s Income Eligibility Calculator or review guidelines on the NJ Solar For All

2. Find a Provider: Visit the NJBPU’s approved list of community solar providers and select a project in your utility area (e.g., Atlantic City Electric).

3. Enroll Online: Complete a simple application with your utility account details and income verification (e.g., tax returns or pay stubs).

4. Start Saving: Once approved, credits will appear on your monthly bill within 1-2 billing cycles.

NJ Solar For All removes barriers to renewable energy, helping families lower bills while advancing the state’s goal of 100% clean energy by 2035. By prioritizing equity, the program ensures marginalized communities aren’t left behind in the green transition.
